☢️ Episode Intro: Toxic Snacks & Tailspins

Because your dog doesn’t know the difference between a chew toy and a Tylenol bottle.

Pets are curious, sneaky, and occasionally dumb in the most lovable way. One minute they’re sniffing around the pantry, the next they’ve swallowed something that could turn into an emergency.

In this episode, we’ll cover what’s actually toxic, what signs to look out for, and what to do before, during, and after your pet eats something suspicious.

‼️Signs Your Pet Might Be Poisoned

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Drooling or foaming at the mouth

  • Tremors or seizures

  • Lethargy or collapse

  • Pale gums or abnormal heartbeat

  • Excessive thirst or urination

⚠️ If you see any of these signs—get to a vet immediately.

🆘 What to Do (Without Freaking Out)

  1. Stay calm.

(Your pet needs help—not your panic.)

  2. Remove access to the toxin.

Keep any packaging—this helps vets identify ingredients.

  3. Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed by a vet.

Some substances (like bleach) can do more damage on the way back up.

  4. Call one of these ASAP:

    • Your vet

    • Nearest emergency animal hospital

    • ASPCA Animal Poison Control: 1-888-426-4435

    • Pet Poison Helpline: 1-855-764-7661

  5. Follow instructions exactly.

If advised to go to the clinic, bring a sample (if safe), packaging, or vomit (yay).

Only 4% of pet owners are thinking ahead

86% of pets aren’t insured. That means most pet parents could be on the hook for the sky-high vet bills that often come with unforeseen accidents and illnesses.

While it's impossible to pinpoint an exact percentage, it's likely your pet will get sick or injured during their lifetime. Pet insurance can help offset these unexpected costs. Many plans even let you choose a deductible and reimbursement level, which could allow you to arrive at a monthly premium you can afford. Check out Money’s list of their top pet insurance picks and start protecting your furry buddy today for as low as $10/month.
